After all too many years of this book having some god awful book cover, I finally made it a new one. I think this book cover design is much more worthy. The other one honestly couldn't even be called a book cover! Death would be a better description of the previous design. I'm actually surprised that I can't seem to find the old book cover in my gallery - even on my old account. To be frank, I was sure that I had uploaded it and I'm really shocked to find that it's not there, but what can I do? Oh well. I have a copy of it elsewhere which I'll keep for... memories, I suppose.

Anyway, this design was actually really hard. It looks simple enough, but I tried a few new techniques. Like the shear and perspective tools in Gimp. I had never used those before and honestly, I think both of them came out really well and I'm quite happy with the results! On the other hand however, the shadowing under the girl in the dress, I think it's too bulky and thick, but nothing I did made it look any better. It either came out even thicker or it was too thin and thus no one could even tell that it was there.

I also created this cover in a multitude of colours. So deciding on a final product was pretty hard. Seriously. I created this design in 17 alternate colours. I finally ended up deciding on colour #3, which is obviously what you see above. I chose this colour scheme because of the sepia look to it. See, the novel itself takes place back in old America, back when we had colonies, etc. So the book cover holds the colours kind of like looking at an old picture from back then.

At the same time though, the sepia colour scheme doesn't completely apply to the female in the gown, who is the main character. So the colours ultimately draw your attention immediately to her, which is kind of important - her being the main character and all. So I figured that was pretty important.

Over all, I'm really quite happy with the design. Like I said, it is so much better then the old one. This is such a major improvement! :D So I'm quite thrilled! It took forever though and that's not cool.
